This painting is called, “Lupita with Butterflies in her Hair.” It’s part of my I Believe in Seeds book featuring paintings depicting my childhood in rural Iowa. The series was made possible by a generous grant from Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.

The painting features Lupita with wild hair. So wild, in fact, that butterflies live in her hair.

When I look back at this painting, I wonder what Lupita’s thinking here. She’s definitely got something weighing on her mind behind those fabulous pink glasses.
